5-  Smart City alnama  in Saudi Arabia

The Smart City “Alnama” in Saudi Arabia is one of the major and important projects in the field of Smart Cities in the world, created with the aim of improving living conditions for citizens and increasing economic efficiency. This city, located near the city of Mecca, uses advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things, machine learning, data analytics, and communication systems to implement the project.

Alnama is divided into several sections, each designed with the goal of increasing efficiency and productivity in their respective sectors. Some of these sections include:

  • Transportation sector: This sector includes roads, train lines, and airports that use new technologies to improve traffic conditions, reduce travel time, and provide better transportation.

  • Residential sector: This sector includes residential units that use smart technologies to provide convenience and security facilities for their residents.

  • Administrative sector: This sector includes offices, hospitals, and universities that use smart technologies to provide better facilities for communication, security, and organization.

The cost of this project is not currently precisely known, but various analyses indicate that its cost is in the billions of dollars. This project has received strong financial support from the Saudi Arabian government. For example, in 2018, the company “Nemat Al-Khair,” one of the companies constructing this project, announced that a contract worth $4.4 billion had been allocated to it for constructing the housing sector of Alnama. Also in 2019, the company “Apple” signed a contract worth $122 million with the company “Nemat Al-Khair” to provide smart technologies for Alnama.

The Alnama project continues to progress steadily, and in 2021, companies “Microsoft” and “Apple” also announced that they had signed contracts to provide technical and research services in various fields including Internet of Things and urban data analytics in Alnama. Additionally, to implement this project, other companies such as “Cisco,” “IBM,” and “Intel” have also signed contracts to provide technical and research services in Alnama.

Technologies used in this project include the Internet of Things, data analytics, intelligent lighting, heating, and cooling systems, and communication systems. Overall, Neom Smart City is recognized as one of the largest and most advanced smart city projects in the world, implemented with the goal of improving the quality of life for Neom citizens and reducing operational and environmental costs. This project is not only considered a prime example of a smart city but also a prominent technological project globally.

Currently, Neom is still expanding, and there are plans for its improvement and expansion in the future. For example, in 2021, the company "Nemah Al-Khair" announced that it had signed a $55 million contract to provide technical and research services for Neom. Additionally, there are plans in this project to use new technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and virtual reality.

In general, Neom Smart City is a prime example of smart city projects in the world, which has helped improve the quality of life for citizens and reduce operational and environmental costs in this city by using modern technologies and smart management.

The companies responsible for implementing the Neom Smart City project are the Saudi companies "Nishan" and "Al-Riyadh." Additionally, a large number of technology companies and consultants have been used for this project.

The area of Neom city is approximately 32,500 hectares. To implement the smart city project, a large number of workers, employees, and engineers were at work. Overall, this project has created jobs for more than 10,000 people.

Currently, more than 90% of the Neom Smart City project has been completed. Improvements are still being made in various urban areas. Overall, this is a long-term project that will continue until its initial goals are achieved.

The main goal of the Neom Smart City project is to create a smart and sustainable city using new and innovative technologies. This project, by using smart systems in various fields such as energy, transportation, waste management, and water, strives to improve citizens' quality of life, reduce costs, and improve efficiency in resource utilization. Additionally, another goal of this project is to create an information and communication technology center in the Middle East region.

In the fields of energy, transportation, waste management, and water, Neom Smart City has used various technologies. Below, we highlight some of the activities of this smart city in each of these areas:
